Everyone sees it, everywhere. Everyone likes to talk about it. From the corporate boardroom to the college lectern, all the way down to kindergarten, it’s repeated and revered. For many, it is the backbone of their ethos and personal credo. What is it, you ask? Diversity. It sounds good, and it makes people who espouse it feel good, as they get to demonstrate their elevated principles. The only problem is that “diversity”, in its current state, is not diverse at all……..it’s a bowl of Froot Loops.

What a great looking bowl of sugary breakfast confection. You could be forgiven for taking a gander at all those different colors and assuming each represents a different, fruity flavor. The problem is, they all taste exactly the same. No matter the description, nor the correctly correlated fruity hue, each of these little delights is the identical flavor. The analogy may be overly simplified, but it works. Disturbingly, this concept of diversity has not just infected everything, it has become law. Whether it’s working for the government, or flipping flame-broiled patties at Burger King, the master-rule of diversity reigns……and to speak ill of it means doom. Let me assure you, challenging this notion of diversity will find you in waiting in line at the soup kitchen for your supper.

The very idea that people from different backgrounds and experiences, and most importantly….different colors…..are somehow automatically “diverse” has the depth of a kiddie pool. Pick a modern University campus. There are young people from all over the country, and world, that are all different ethnicities and backgrounds. On the surface, they appear to be a “diverse” group. The problem is, they all are exactly the same. For the most part they have the same ideas, thoughts, likes, and opinions. Regardless of how often they are told of their diversity, and how often they congratulate themselves for it, they have fallen for a racist and tribal concept. To them, a group that’s homogenous in appearance cannot be diverse, because without different representation of color and culture there can be no difference between people. This is a sad, and frankly offensive, position.

No matter the color, culture, and background of a group of individuals, if they share the same level of ideas, beliefs, likes, and opinions……..they are not at all diverse. Conversely, no matter if all the individuals in a group superficially appear similar, if they possess different ideas, opinions, talents, beliefs, and accomplishments……….they are truly diverse. To state this in today’s progressive-created moral panic is equivalent to committing “thoughtcrime”.

I acknowledge that historically there have been groups that were not correctly represented due to unequal treatment under the law. That was unacceptable. It is also in the past. Rule of law should apply equally to everyone, of course……but in our effort to remedy the wrongs of the past, we are polluting the present, and poisoning the future. It may be difficult to understand for some that equality under the law has nothing to do with prejudice or bias. Those are human emotional and behavioral constructions, and will be eternal……that I can promise you. The goal is that – indifferent to prejudice and bias – all are treated the same by the law, and that all have equal opportunity.

The danger of today’s concept of diversity is that it’s completely shallow. It is literally skin-deep. Years from now, it will sit atop history’s ash heap along with “self-esteem” focused parenting, global warming, and multitudinous genders. Why? Because merit and accomplishment has to ultimately rule. And as it currently exists, the trope of diversity has to, and will, collapse. Again, why? Because a society run on diversity of opinion, ideas and individual merit will succeed, and one that doesn’t will fail due to a lack of depth, accomplishment, talent, and vision. Name the occupation: Doctor. Carpenter. Artist. Musician. Athlete. Chef. What makes them worthy of your patronage and earnings? Their talent, ability, and skill, or the color of their skin? On the merit of the service provided and product produced, or the hijab on their head? Contrarily, no matter who you are, do you want your success to be determined by the caliber of your skill and work you produce, or by your ethnic identity?

Diversity as we know it, and as being taught, is a sad and fruitless attempt to dictate human behavior and produce “social justice”. What should be taught is that the world is a hard and unforgiving place, and people can be cruel, biased, and prejudiced……but if the law, and opportunity, is equally applied and available to every individual, you can succeed on your own merits. It doesn’t mean you will get equal results, or equal reward, but you will get the chance to get the outcome you deserve. People should be taught to understand the truths and constants of human behavior – like bias and prejudice – and know that they will always exist, and one must learn to steer around them.  Acknowledging that fact while navigating a society that guarantees your opportunity to succeed, through equality under the law, is the best result possible. The embrace of the Froot Loops Philosophy of diversity has produced nothing but mediocrity, depression, and anger among those that believe in it, because it is shallow and false, and it doesn’t produce what it has promised. Until we purge the modern concept of diversity….which in truth is corporate and state-sanctioned bigotry……the world around us will continue to crumble.
